Subject: Kerala sees 9% growth in exports
Kerala registered a 9.2 per cent growth in exports during the April-September period of 2009-10.
 
The growth was mainly led by spices, marine products, cashew and the Kochi Special Economic Zone.

Except Kerala and Haryana, all other states in India registered negative growth during the period, according to figures released by the Director General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics. Haryana had a paltry growth rate of 0.1 per cent.

Kerala alone earned an income of $2,778 million (around Rs 12,500 crore) from exports as against $2,544 million (Rs 11,450 crore) in the same period of 2008-09.

India’s total exports suffered a serious setback during the period registering a negative growth of 29.7 per cent. Country’s total export earnings stood at $76,589 million (Rs 344,650 crore) as against $108,907 million (Rs 490,000 crore) in the first six months of 2008-09.

Delhi suffered the most with its export earnings declining 55.2 per cent followed by Uttar Pradesh with -51.1 per cent.
