Kandla Port gets Major Port of the Year award |
The Kandla Port in Gujarat, run by the Kandla Port Trust has been adjudged the ‘Major Port of the Year' at the Maritime and Logistics Awards 2010, organised by Exim India. The two other nominees were the ports run by the Chennai Port Trust and the Visakhapatnam Port Trust.
Mr PD Vaghela chairman of KPT received the trophy and certificate from Mr SS Hussain former chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust at a function in Mumbai. The awards were chosen by a jury headed by former Shipping Secretary Mr DT Joseph.
The Kandla Port had created history by handling 79.50 million tonnes of cargo in 2009-2010.
