Shell India imports second spot LNG cargo from Yemen LNG |
Shell India has imported a 160,000 cubic meter spot cargo from Yemen LNG, an official with the Gujarat state government has said.
The cargo was loaded on to the LNG tanker Maersk Marib at Balhaf, east Yemen. The cargo was the second Shell imported from Yemen LNG in the last three months, after bringing a cargo in late April through its Hazira terminal.
The terminal is jointly owned by UK-Dutch major Shell and France's Total, and operated by Shell India. Total is also a shareholder in the Yemen LNG project.
Oil and gas production started in Yemen in 1986 with production levels remaining within the region of 320,000 barrels per day in 2008. The country is likely to continue to rely on its natural resources to provide for its population of over 22 million inhabitants.
As the country’s largest-ever industrial investment (budgeted around US$ 4.5 billion), the Yemen LNG project was launched in August 2005.
The proven gas reserves are sufficient to produce and export 6.7 million metric tonnes of LNG per annum (mmtpa) for at least the next 20 years to its long-term customers in the North American and South Korean markets and potentially also to new customers in the future. Saba
