Antara News cited Mr Purnomo Yusgiantoro Energy and Mineral Resources Minister of Indonesia as saying that Indonesia is to export three million more tonnes of coal to India in the next two months.
He said that "So far we export 13 million tonnes of coal to India per year. Now we will export three million tons more over the next two or three months."
Mr Purnomo said the prospects of coal exports to India are good considering that the country would need 50 million tonnes of coal per year in the future. He said that though coal export to India was to be boosted, domestic need for coal would remain the first priority.
Indonesia produces 230 million tonnes of coal per year of which 40% is used to meet domestic need while India is among the world biggest coal exporters and importers.
