India, Turkmenistan discuss hydrocarbon opportunities |
Indian hydrocarbon companies are exploring opportunities to acquire interests in gas fields in Turkmenistan. The Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora, met the visiting President of Turkmenistan, Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived here on Monday on a three-day maiden visit.
After the meeting, the Petroleum Secretary, Mr S. Sundareshan, said that “We are looking at some of the blocks…..we offered to invest in producing fields.”
Mr Murli Deora, said, “If we get guaranteed gas supply, we are prepared to set up petrochemical plant there.” Discussions on Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project also took place.
Earlier, India and Turkmenistan signed bilateral accords to enhance cooperation in trade, education, science and technology, art and culture and visa free travel to holders of diplomatic passport.
