NEW DELHI: State-run trading firm PEC has invited bids for the import of 8,000 tonnes of pulses from Myanmar to be delivered by June. Bids will close on May 22 and the decision on the tender will be taken by May 29, the company said on its website.

A bidder should quote for the entire quantity of each variety of the pulses specified port-wise, it said. According to the tender notice, bidders should source 8,000 tonnes of green gram (moong) and black gram (urad) grown during 2009 crop year in Myanm ar.

About 2,000 tonnes each of moong and urad should be delivered at ports in Kochi/Tuticorin and Chennai. The shipment of another 2,000 tonnes each of urad should reach at Chennai and Mumbai respectively, it said.

The consignment of imported pulses should reach at specified ports between May and June, it added. India imports pulses as output is lower than the demand.The country's production of pulses is estimated at 14.25 million tonnes in the 2008-09 crop year, while domestic demand is around 17-18 million tonnes.
