India has decided to allow exports of up to two million tonnes of wheat to countries that have made diplomatic requests, a government statement said on Friday.
India, the world's second-biggest wheat grower, produced a record 78.4 million tonnes in 2008, and is likely to cross last year's levels with next year's crop.
Earlier, Farm Minister Sharad Pawar had said the government had earmarked 2 million tonnes of grain for such exports, partially easing a ban clamped on overseas sales in early 2007 after supplies dwindled and prices spiralled.
