India to export 5 lakh tonnes rice, wheat |
Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee yesterday said New Delhi has decided to export three lakh tonnes of rice and two lakh tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh relaxing an export ban on essential commodities.
"We are committed to assisting Bangladesh in addressing its priorities for development and in its immediate requirements and it is in that spirit that we have just agreed to export three lakh tonnes of rice and two lakh tonnes of wheat," Mukherjee told a press briefing after witnessing the signing of US$1billion loan deal along with his counterpart Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.
India earlier imposed a worldwide export ban on rice and wheat for its production shortfall of such essential commodities.
