India to Bolster Manufacturing, Exports.

Jaipur, The National Manufacturing Policy, aimed at increasing the sector's contribution to India's total economic output, is likely to be announced by the year end, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma said Thursday.

'Manufacturing contributes about 25 percent of the GDP of leading global economies. In India this figure is only about 16-17 percent,' Sharma said here.

The minister also suggested widening the country's export markets to regions like Africa and Latin America, and focussing on vocational training to provide jobs to the youth.

Addressing the CeraGlass India 2010 exhibition here -- showcasing ceramics, glass and allied products, he complimented measures taken by Rajasthan to promote its mineral-based industries.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said a single-window system was needed to make it easier to invest in the state.

'A statutory single-window mechanism would be functional from 1st January 2011 in the state,' Gehlot said.

He said the state had all the ingredients of an ideal investment destination - mineral wealth, infrastructure, conducive policy and skilled labour.
