India Spices Exports Up 16% till Q3 This Fiscal |
KOCHI : The exports of spices and spices products from India during April-December 2010 scaled up by 16 percent in value and three percent in volume to 391,560 tons.
In terms of value, this means Rs.4880.56 crores (US$1070.10 Million) against the exports of 378,950 tons priced Rs. 4222.56 crores (US$ 882.33 Million) of April-December 2009, a 21% increase in dollar terms; said a press release from Spices Board.
During April-December 2010, The exports of chilli, ginger, fennel and garlic have shown increases during April-December 2010 both in volume and value as compared to April-December 2009. The exports of value added product spice oils and oleoresin are on the upswing as compared to April-December 2009.
But exports of pepper, cardamom (large), turmeric, mint products and other spices like tamarind and asafoetida could register increase only in value terms.
Spices like like cardamom(small), coriander, cumin, celery, fenugreek, other seed spices like mustard, aniseed, ajwanseed etc., nutmeg &mace have declined both in terms of volume and value as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
During the period, the export of spice oils and oleoresins has also increased to 5,275 tons valued Rs.641.40 crores from 5,200 tons valued Rs.546.77 crores of last year.
A total quantity of 14,000 tons of pepper valued Rs.266.25 crores have been exported as against 15,425 tons valued Rs.243.27 crores of last year. The unit value of pepper has increased from Rs.157.71per kg in 2009-10 to Rs.190.18 per kg during 2010-11.
During April – December 2010, a total quantity of 400 tons of cardamom (large) valued Rs. 21.75 crores as against 670 tons valued Rs.10.53 crores of last year. In the case of cardamom (large) the unit value has increased from Rs.157.23 per Kg in 2009-10 to Rs.543.85 per kg in 2010-11.
During the period a total quantity of 1,79,500 tons of chilli valued Rs. 1108.92 crores have been exported as against 1,47,250 tons valued Rs. 946.49 crores of last year, registering an increase of 22 percent in quantity and 17 percent in value. Ginger exports totaled 7,800 tons valued Rs. 49.04 crores as against 4,150 tons valued Rs.32.44crores of last year.
Compared to the spices export target of 465,000 tons valued Rs.5100.00 crores (US $ 1125 million) fixed for the financial year 2010-11, the achievement of 391,560 tons valued Rs.4880.56 crores (US$ 1070.10 million) during April-December 2010 is 84 percent in terms of quantity and 96 percent in rupee value and 95 percent in dollar value terms.
