Subject: India Sept Rubber Imports Increases by 54.3%
India's natural rubber imports increased 54.3% to 28,720 ton from 18,612 ton, while export was nominal at 77 ton in September, as against 574 ton last year, according to provisional data released by the Rubber Board of India.

In April- September, output was up 7.6% from 3, 48,625 ton, while demand rose 2% to 4, 65,550 ton from 4, 56,365 ton.

Imports during the period declined 12% on year to 1, 07,190 ton from 1, 22,095 ton, while exports surged to 4,440 ton from 1,591 ton. Although demand which rose in April-September, fell marginally in September, marking the third consecutive month of fall in demand for natural rubber.

Natural rubber output in September rose 4.3% on year to 77,500 ton from 74,300 ton, Demand declined 0.9% on year to 78,000 from 78,765 ton, it said.

According to Rubber Board overall demand growth was driven by automotive tyre manufactures. Demand from the tyre sector increased 4% in April-September. Imports of natural rubber went up in September mainly due to lower price of sheet rubber in overseas markets as against the rates in domestic market.

Natural rubber stocks in the country as on September 30 stood at 2, 68,075 ton. According to the projection of Rubber Board, natural rubber output in April-March (2010-11) will be 8, 93,000 ton, while demand is seen around 9,78,000 ton.
