India’s Net Rough Imports in September $901 Million |
India imported 12,488,000 carats of rough diamonds worth $973.5 million in September, a 37.4 percent increase in value over last year. The average value of gross imports was $77.96 per carat, based on provisional figures released Sunday by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Rough diamond exports of 1,983,000 carats worth $72.6 million, averaged $36.61 p/c. Exports in September increased in value by 7.3 percent year over year.
Net rough diamond imports were $900.9 million, bringing into the country 10,505,000 carats at an average value of $85.76 p/c.
In the fiscal year to date (April-September), India imported 5.71 billion worth of goods, a 45 percent increase from last year. It exported $474.1 million worth of goods during the six-month period, a 33.6 percent increase.
In the first half of the fiscal year, India’s net rough diaamond imports totaled $5.24 billion. By volume, net imports were 64.07 million carats at $81.79 p/c.a
