India's Mar Exports, Imports Up |
India's exports in March were $,19,908 million or Rs.90,573 crore, compared with the $12,916 million or Rs.66,169 crore in March last year. In dollar and rupee terms, they grew by 54% and 37% respectively, data of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry say. They expect a lower trade deficit for the last fiscal.
The cumulative value of exports for Apr-Mar 2010 was $176,574 million or Rs.835,264 crore, compared with the $185,295 million or Rs.840,574 crore, a negative growth of 5% in dollar terms and 0.7% in rupee terms over the corresponding period last year.
Imports during March were valued at $27,733 million or Rs.126,175 crore, representing a growth of 67% in dollar terms and 48% in rupee terms over the level of imports valued at $16,597 million or Rs.85,022 crore last March.
The cumulative value of imports for Apr-Mar 2010 was $278,681 million (Rs.1,318,188 crore), compared with the $303,696 million (Rs.1,374,434 crore), registering a negative growth of 8% in dollar and 4% in rupee terms over the corresponding period last year.
Oil imports were US $ 7730 million, 85.2 per cent higher than oil imports valued at US $ 4175 million in the corresponding period last year. Oil imports during April 2009-March 2010 were US$ 85473 million--8.7 per cent lower than the oil imports of US $ 93667 million in the corresponding period last year.
Non-oil imports during March were estimated at $20,003 million, 61% higher than the $12,422 million for the same month a year-ago. Non-oil imports during Apr-Mar 2010 were $193,208 million, down by 8% from the $210,029 million in Apr-Mar 2009.
Trade deficit for Apr-Mar 2010 was estimated at $102,106 million, which was lower than the deficit of the $118,401 million during Apr-Mar 2009.
