India's gem and jewellery exports surge |
Baselworld 2010, one of the most exclusive jewellery shows in the world, is being held from March 18-25, 2010. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is hosting the Indian Pavilion which will see participation of 34 leading manufacturers from India. Basel has proven to be a good platform to promote branded jewellery designs and works towards auguring business opportunities.
Globally acclaimed as the biggest event for discovering new trends in watch and jewellery industry, Baselworld 2010 has emerged as the platform for setting trends and establishing contacts in B2B environment. Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Vasant Mehta, Chairman, GJEPC, said, "Every year, India's participation facilitates an exposure for the Indian designs and gems to the global market thereby helping the Indian G&J industry to create inroads into the untapped markets and establish India's foothold in these markets. Keeping the vital role that this platform plays in the overall growth of the Indian economy, GJEPC has handpicked the top 34 manufacturers who display their products that seamlessly balance international sensibilities along with Indian designs".
India is all set to dazzle this year at Basel. For the first time at Basel, India's expertise is being showcased at India Palace, in addition to the India Pavilion at Hall 6. A Daily Catwalk over cocktail for select buyers is being organised at India Palace.
Through this, GJEPC ensures that India's superior quality, craftsmanship and product designs are showcased in a befitting ambience.
India's export market growth in 2009 has been encouraging with total gem and jewellery exports registering at US$25.22 billion as compared to US$24.95 billion, irrespective of global melt down prevalent during this period.
Today, India is undeniably the centre of gem and jewellery trade with US - the leading market in this industry importing almost 30% of its jewellery from India. Participation of the leading Indian players in Baselworld is thus paramount.
Every year, Baselworld witnesses over 2000 exhibitors from 45 countries with more than 100000 buyers from all over the world. At the India Pavilion, one would see diamond; gold, silver and platinum jewellery. India will be represented by the top 34 manufacturers who have been handpicked by the GJEPC.
