India reportedly bans telecom equipment imports from 26 vendors |
India has banned imports of telecommunication equipment from 26 foreign companies, the Financial Chronicle newspaper reported Thursday, without citing any sources.
As much as 25 of the banned companies are from China and they include Huawei Technologies Co., ZTE Corp. and Lenovo China, the report said. The remaining company is from Israel, it added.
The Indian government has been cautious on allowing foreign companies, especially those from China, to import telecom gear due to fear that they may use spyware in such equipment.
Click here to find out more!Meanwhile, several telecom operators, who recently received licenses to offer third-generation mobile telephony, are giving out network-management contracts to equipment vendors.
The operators must get the government's clearance for such contracts.
