India may export 500,000 T of sugar in 2010/11-ISO |
India, the world's largest sugar consumer, is likely to export 500,000 tonnes of sugar in 2010/11, the International Sugar Organization said on Wednesday.
India, which last exported the sweetener in 2007/08, is likely to produce 26 million tonnes of sugar, raw value, in the 2010/11 crop year (Oct-Sept), up from an estimated 18.5-19 million in the current year, enabling it to export again, said Peter Baron, executive director of the ISO.
"We think India will be an exporter in 2010/11. It's not a real big amount. We guess it's half a million tonnes. I guess India will probably export raw sugar," Baron said ahead of an international sugar conference on the Indonesian resort island of Bali.
