India Guar Gum Exports Require Govt Nod for EU Shipment |
Indian guar gum exports would require federal clearance to check the presence of penta chlorophenol (PCP), a chemical used as pesticide, before shipping to the European Union, the trade ministry said late on Tuesday.
India accounts for 80 percent of world trade in guar gum, extracted from the guar bean.
Guar gum is used as animal feed and is also incorporated into dairy products such as yogurts, soft cheese and ice cream -- and also bread, pasta, ham, sausages, prepared fish and pastries.
