India Gets Requests to Export 1.79 million Bales of Cotton |
MUMBAI: Indian textile commissioner's office received applications to register exports of 1.79 million cotton bales until Monday evening, data with the Textile Commissioner's web site showed.
The government has already registered 230,900 bales out of the total proposals received, it said. The government has allowed exports of 5.5 million bales in 2010/11, but exporters need to register the consignments at the Textile Commissioner's office in Mumbai.
The registration for 2010/11 season began on Oct. 1. Cotton output in India is likely to jump to a record 35 million bales in 2010/11, higher than prior estimates of 32.5 million bales on better yields, a leading exporter said.
Indian cotton traders may renegotiate export deals and even cancel a few following a surge in local prices and a government decision to delay shipments, industry officials said on Wednesday.
