VARANASI: The Carpet Export Promotion Council, under the aegis of the Government of India, will hold its four-day India Carpet Expo at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University grounds from October 3.
CEPC chairman Ashok Jain and convener of expo sub-committee Siddhnath Singh informed that despite global recession, the largest extravaganza of handmade carpets, rugs and floor coverings was going to witness a huge participation of foreign buyers as 100 of them from different countries had already been registered. More than 200 manufacturers and exporters from Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Jaipur, Panipat and Kashmir would take part in the expo with their antique, modern, contemporary and classical products.
They said the prime motive of the council for holding the expo there was to provide an opportunity to the overseas carpet buyers to get all varieties of the carpet and floor coverings under one roof. They said the fair would prove to be oxygen to the cottage-based and employment-oriented carpet industry in the present global declining trend.
