MUMBAI, June 26 (Reuters) - India's steel imports in April and May were at 926,750 tonnes, up 5 percent from a year earlier, a report on the government's Joint Plant Committee website showed on Friday.
Imports of flat products, used in automobiles and white goods, were at 773,480 tonnes in April and May, up 6 percent from a year earlier.
Imports from Russia and Ukraine grew an annual 95 percent and 55 percent respectively, but imports from China fell by 88 percent.
India's domestic steel makers have been asking for higher import duty on steel as they believe the cheaper imports are putting pressure on prices.
