India allows 100,000 T rice exports to Bangladesh |

NEW DELHI, May 18 (Reuters) - India has allowed exports of 100,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice to neighbouring Bangladesh, a government statement said on Tuesday, partially lifting a two-year year old ban.
State-run trading firms State Trading Corp of India Ltd (STCI.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), MMTC Ltd and PEC Ltd would supply the grain to Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, an arm of the trade ministry, said on its website here
Reuters had earlier reported that India might export limited quantities of rice to Bangladesh.
Last week, India permitted exports of 400,000 tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh. The country clamped down on wheat and rice exports in the past three years to rein in inflationary pressures.
Higher output since then and overflowing grain bins have raised hopes of easing the trade restrictions.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has also extended a permission to export 650,000 tonnes of wheat products until March 2011. India does not allow exports of the grain but had permitted millers to sell up to 650,000 tonnes of wheat products until March 2010.
