Subject: Increased Liquor Sales up Delhi’s Excise Revenue
New Delhi,  (IANS) The Delhi government’s excise revenue collection has increased to Rs.982.24 crore this fiscal so far, an increase of nearly 25 percent compared to the corresponding period last year, an official said Wednesday.

“The total excise revenue collection on all categories of liquor and intoxicants from April 1 to till date is Rs.982.24 crore as against Rs.787.17 crores in the corresponding period of 2009-10,” an excise department official said.

Besides, the sales of India made foreign liquor brands from Apr 1 to Oct 13 was 38,36,500 cases on which the excise duty collected was Rs.494.14 crore. During the same period last year, a total of 34,26,898 cases were sold, earning a revenue of Rs.417.61 crore.

The official said that in each month of 2010-11 this year, there was a growth of sales and excise duty collection compared to the corresponding months of 2009-10 except in October.

He said the sale of liquor remained low in October due to many dry days, traffic restrictions on movement of liquor besides closure of markets, restaurants and bars on account of the Commonwealth Games and also reduced demand because of Shradh and Navratra festivals.
