Drugs and Cosmetics can be imported only through designated ports listed under Rule 43A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules. Import of drugs and cosmetics through any other port is illegal and action against such importers will be initiated by Customs officials. Mormugao seaport and Dabolim airport are not currently designated and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry has taken up the matter with the Centre. The GCCI has urged traders and importers in Goa not to import drugs and cosmetics through the Goa ports until they are designated under Rule 43A.
CM inspects Talpona fire site: Chief minister Digambar Kamat last week visited the site near Talpona beach in Canacona where a major fire had broken out on Tuesday. Kamat, who was in the national capital when the blaze took place, said that the incident had taken a huge toll on the local community. A sum of Rs 2.13 lakh was disbursed to the affected people through the South Goa collectorate. Several canoes, fishing nets and other equipment stored in the structures were damaged in the fire. The total loss was estimated at Rs 50 lakh. The chief minister was accompanied by South Goa collector G P Naik, former MLA Isidore Fernandes, mamlatdar and other officers.
Exhibition at Taleigao: 'Shringar', an exhibition of exclusive products from all over India, will be organized for the third consecutive year on Saturday at Taleigao community centre between 10am and 9pm. The products will include Indo-western couture, saris, accessories, designer shirts, ethnic kurtas besides smart clothes for children. A wide range of jewellery will be there on display. Courts with food catered by Goa Marriott Resort will also be set up. The exhibition will is being organized by Ranjana Salgaocar.
Essay writing contest: The Union ministry of environment and forest and the World Wide Fund for Nature, India, is organizing a national level essay writing competition on 'Climate change' for the youth. The contest is open for those in the age group of 16-21. For group A (16-18 years) the word limit is 1,000 and for group B (19-21 years) the word limit is 1,500. The topic for the contest is "You are India's future generation -- how can you lead/influence the climate change challenge to ensure a sustainable future for the country and the planet".
