New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) In a bid to boost sports in the country, the government today allowed duty free imports of items like fitness equipment, apparel and anti-doping testing products and sports medicine.
The government also allowed the Sport Authorities of States and national federations to import goods, not only for the competitions but also for training purpose.
"Based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Finance vide its Notification No. 5/2010 dated 19th Janurary, 2010 has extended custom duty exemption on import of sports goods and requisites for training purpose also," an official statement said.
"List of items to be imported without custom duty has been enlarged. Now synthetic playing surfaces, fitness equipments, sports medicine, sports apparel and anti-doping testing related equipments have been added.
"Earlier Sports Austhority of India was allowerd to import.
