NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A panel of ministers is scheduled to meet on Thursday to assess the country's grain stocks and consider cutting the minimum price for basmati exports, the Financial Express reported, citing the Press Trust of India news agency.
The panel would consider cutting the government-set floor for basmati exports to $750-$800 per tonne from $1,100 per tonne, the report said.
It said a lower floor price would help Indian basmati exports compete with neighbouring Pakistan which is selling at lower rates.
Basmati cultivation in India has risen sharply this year because of weak monsoon rains. Basmati can be sown late and requires lesser water.
