New Delhi, April 9 The Union Cabinet on Thursday discussed a proposal for allowing duty-free imports of refined sugar. The outcome of the late evening meeting is not immediately known, and a decision could be announced on Friday.
“It was on the agenda and it was not deferred. The decision will be known tomorrow (Friday),” an official told reporters in response to a question about whether duty free import of white sugar was discussed at the Cabinet meeting. The source further said any decision would need the clearance of the Election Commission.
