Country’s biggest annual leather event, India international leather fair (IILF), is entering its 25th edition this year and Indian exporters are looking forward to a successful business outcome amid subdued recovery in export markets.
“Though we are still reeling under the adverse impact of the global economic crisis, the industry is optimistic of revival in export prospects at least after March 2010.
We look forward to upcoming events with optimism,” Habib Hussain, chairman, Council for Leather Exports (CLE), said. IILF 2010, to be held in Chennai from January 31 to February 3, will see a large contingent of German leather companies across machinery, goods and chemicals exploring business potential in the burgeoning Indian leather industry. Germany accounts for about 14 per cent of India’s leather exports.
The event will focus on showcasing sourcing potential from India, establishing marketing tie-ups with visiting overseas buyers. CLE has invited 50-60 buyers from Europe, the US, Latin American countries, African nations, CIS countries, Asean countries and south Asian countries, among others for sourcing of leather products from India.
The Indian leather industry has been looking to source high-quality hides and skins from Ethiopia for export production.
