NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): Global coffee exports have witnessed a marginal surge of 2.56% to 82.30 million bags during first ten months of the coffee year2008-09 while India’s exports dipped to 2.28 million bags.
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) said that the India shipped only 2.28 million of coffee bags from October to July against 2.66 million bags in the same period a year ago, registering 14.28% decline.
Meanwhile, the coffee exports from the countries such as Colombia and Guatemala were also slipped by 22.56% and 6.36% respectively during the period along with India, it said.
Higher prices for Indian coffee bean in the global market while comparing to other exporting countries was the major obstacle for the sale, said an analyst. A poor demand in consuming countries following the global slowdown is also affecting the country's exports, he added.
One bag contains 60 kg of coffee. The coffee year runs from October to September.
