Kota (PTI): A farmers' organisation on Sunday staged a sit-in here demanding that the export duty on Basmati rice be removed.
Hadauti Kisan Union organised a day-long sit-in in front of the Divisional Commissioner's office today, demanding that export duty on basmati rice at USD 200 per metric tonnes be removed with immediate effect.
In a submitted memorandum, the organisation said that export duty on rice in Pakistan was much lower than India and because of this Pakistani rice was having an edge over Indian rice in foreign countries.
