Dumping duty on Chinese vehicle parts .

Date: 15-04-2010
Subject: Dumping duty on Chinese vehicle parts
New Delhi, April 14 The Finance Ministry has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on Chinese front axle beams (FAB) and steering knuckles meant for heavy and medium commercial vehicles.

Bharat Forge, which is the sole manufacturer of FABs, had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping duty on FAB and steering knuckle imports from China. FAB is an axle over which front wheels of the commercial vehicle are mounted. It is a safety critical component as it carries the load of the vehicle and also keeps the steering in place.

Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry, the Revenue Department has now imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty of $0.35 per kg on FABs exported by Chinese manufacturers and exporter Hubei Tri-ring Auto Axle Ltd. For other manufacturers, the anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $0.63 per a kg.

The definitive anti-dumping duty is for five years and imposed with effect from June 15, 2009, the date of imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty.

Meanwhile, Mahindra Forgings Ltd, Amtek Auto Ltd and Harig Crankshaft are the other manufacturers of steering knuckles. All the three producers had fully backed Bharat Forge, the applicant.

In the case of steering knuckles exported by Hubei Tri-Ring Forging Co Ltd, the definitive anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $0.64 a kg .

For other manufacturers or exporters, the definitive anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $1.11 a kg.
