KANPUR: With a view to make beef available to poor Muslims in their meal, senior Congress leader and member of the State Congress Committee Rizwan Hamid demanded for a ban on the export of beef by handing over a memorandum to Sriprakash Jaiswal, minister of state (independent) for coal, statistics and programme implementation, Government of India.
Rizwan Hamid, who met Jaiswal in Delhi recently, asked for a ban on the export of buffalo meat, stating that with the ban, the meat would then be easily available in the market at an affordable price.
"Export of beef is depriving hundreds of poor Muslims from buying it at affordable prices. This has raised the prices of meat from Rs 30 per kg to Rs 100 per kg now. Therefore, a letter in this regard has been handed over to Jaiswal and he has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his intervention," said Rizwan Hamid while talking to TOI.
