India’s exports for the month of December 2009 grew 9.3% to USD 14.5 billion on a year-on-year basis. The Commerce Ministry has asked the government to continue export sops in the next financial year.
The ministry has recommended extension of export-oriented units (EOU) and software technology parks of India (STPI) schemes which were to expire on March 31, 2010. “It is a political call.” Along with this, it has also asked for extension of interest subvention on export credits by a year, which too was to end by March this year.
The ministry has suggested additional funds for export incentive schemes. “Focus products, market-linked product and Krishi Yojana are likely to get more funds.”
