CII and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce join hands to upgrade Logistics Skills |
Report by India Education bureau, New Delhi: CII – Institute of Logistics (CII-IL) signed an MoU with Hamburg Chamber of Commerce today in the presence of Mr Olaf Scholz, Mayor of Hamburg., H E Michael Steiner and Mr Sharda Prasad, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment and Director General of Employment & Training, Government of India. CII – Institute of Logistics has taken up the initiative to set up a Sector Skill Council (SSC) for Logistics with the support of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The Mission of the SSC is to bring in the best in class workforce skills to the Indian Logistics Industry, thereby benefiting the employers, employees and the Nation as a whole. CII-IL and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce agreed to establish a strategic partnership in the establishment of the Sector Skills Council of Logistics to the benefit of the logistics and related sectors in India.
Mr Olaf Scholz , Mayor of Hamburg in his key note address said that “this is the first step towards great cooperation” and he is optimistic towards achieving the vision of the co-operation.
H E Michael Steiner, Ambassador, Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany who addressed the gathering expressed that “the frame work of vocational training should address the specific needs of Indian requirements. In addition, the image of the skilled workers should be built to make them feel proud. This will attract more workers to join this vocational training programme”.
Mr Sharda Prasad, referred the relationship of India and Germany in the field of vocational training. The Indo-German working group which is in existence for the past 5 years is well accepted and this initiative will strengthen the relationship of both the countries”.
Dr Thomas M. Schunemann, Vice President of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, who signed the MoU on behalf of Hamburg Chamber remarked that, “the success of vocational training in Germany is attributed to the proactive role of the Chamber of Commerce in imparting end to end qualitative and standard vocational training”.
Mr R Dinesh, Co – Chairman, CII Institute of Logistics Advisory Council & JMD, TVS Sons Ltd., signed the MoU on behalf of CII remarked that “this Skill Sector Council will address the challenge of huge skill gap in logistics sector and expressed optimism that the guidance from Hamburg Chamber of commerce will go a long way in achieving the objectives of SSC.
