Subject: China to explore business & trade opportunities in India
India China Economic and Cultural Council (ICEC Council) today organised a high-powered business delegation from China which is visiting India to explore Trade & investment opportunities with India. The pioneering initiative has been taken with the announcement of 1st China South Asia Exposition.

The objective of the meet is to promote economic, trade, cultural and academic exchanges and cooperation of South Asian countries with China. This event was organised with the support of Chinese Embassy in India and Federation of Indian Export Organisations.

In his welcome address Mr. Peng Gang – Economic Counsellor; Embassy of People’s Republic of China thanked the media, delegates & other official dignitaries present. He said that the upcoming exhibition is an excellent opportunity to extend the business cooperation between Yunnan province and India.

The governments of both the countries are keen to facilitate more trade and investments. In recent years, with the joint efforts of the leaders and peoples of two countries, China-India relations are developing in an all around manner.

The upcoming first session of China-South Asia Exposition, is another concrete step taken by the Chinese Government to promote international trade between China and South Asian countries, he said.

H. E. Mr. Gao Shuxun, the Hon’ble Vice Governor said that in the last decade, Yunnan has further enhanced the friendly exchanges with South Asian countries, with improved bilateral relations and remarkable economic and trade achievements.

He invited Indian Industry people to the 1st China-South Asia Exposition, which will be inaugurated in Kunming, China in June, 2013, concurrently with the 21st China Kunming Import and Export Fair. I sincerely hope that relevant authorities of India could render their strong support to the first session on China-South Asia Exposition, which will be crucial for the success of this event, he further added.

Mr. Ajay Sahai, Director General, Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) said that Industry is focusing on China as an emerging market particularly in sectors absorbing large labor force. The shift is taking place from commodity exports to manufactured goods but India has to move to value added segment of exports. This would be the only way to reduce the widening trade deficit.

In his concluding remarks, Mr Saqib – Secretary General – ICEC Council, said that the seminar has really helped in getting to know more about the Yunnan and more specifically about the business opportunities that exist in Yunnan.

These kind of interactions should take place more frequently which will help in bridging the gap between the two nations, said Mr. Saqib. He further added that ICEC Council has an office in Kunming and Indian Companies who are interested in exploring the business opportunities in Kunming can get in touch with us. ICEC provides professional advisory services to its membership.

He ended the seminar by thanking FIEO, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Indian Importers Association for their invaluable support in organising the seminar.
