Cashew export has gone up by nearly 23% to 10,136 tonne during December compared to the same month the year before due to diversification into new markets. The country had exported 8,272 tonne cashew kernels in December 2008, according to the data provided by the Cashew Export Promotion Council. In terms of value, the export rose by 20% to Rs 269.89 crore during the month from Rs 225.01 crore in the year-ago period. According to cashew nut and cocoa development director Venkatesh Hubbali, the main reason behind the rise in export is the several promotional measures taken by the commerce ministry in exploring new markets.
